A hands on rope splicing workshop designed to support the needs of circus, theater and entertainment professionals. This 4 day workshop will begin with 3 strand splicing (trapeze and utility ropes), then progress to hollow braid (dynamic aerial and rigging ropes), and finish with double braid (rigging ropes, safety lines, etc). Participation by studio owners, production riggers, aerialists and other circus practitioners who rely on ropes, and anyone responsible for safety with ropes, is encouraged to join this workshop. (more details below) Folks from other industries are welcome - this is an all inclusive, kind, supportive space and the information is valuable to many!

 

Fee:  $585 includes splicing tool kit valued at $120, plus all lodging and shared meals.

More about the workshop:

  • We will hands-on splice all the lines mentioned, and each student will receive one on one personal attention to allow them to fully understand the material and leave with useful skills.
  • The setting is an 1888 farm house in rural Weare, New Hampshire (USA) approximately 1.5 hours from Boston.  Accommodations are indoor glamping - bring your pillow, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and teddy bear. Meals are shared - we'll take turns in the kitchen preparing and cleaning up from meals. 
  • Timeliness:  We cannot start the workshop until everyone is arrived.  Plan on arriving the evening before or being on site before 9 am on Tuesday, February 17.
  • Expect ten hours of instruction each day in this immersive workshop, plus meditation, yoga stretches, and guided reflections.

  • About the teachers: Mark Przekurat (founder of Fids & Fibers) has been offering rope splicing workshops for 15 years with a focus on the complex needs of arborists. His Fids & Fibers workshops offer education into rope manufacturing, inspection practices, how to choose rope for various applications, as well as hands on splicing training and mentorship. Mark will be supported by aerialist Serenity Smith Forchion who offers three decades of circus performance, rigging and equipment building.
